At the world Congress. of Poets in 1990, I made the following observations: " From the days of Mesopotamian literature about five thousand years ago to the Modern days, Poets and Poems have come a long way. They have had their glorious as well as calamitous days. Whether good or bad, pleasant or unpleasant, bouquets or brickbats, Poets have played their role truly and fully, and given us their best. They pour out their mind and heart, sing the vibrations and inner urges of their being, praise the Supreme that pervades and permeates all, glorify beauty, extol Nature and its bounty, pillory the wicked and the unjust, mirror the pathos of the weak and cheer the world for a future of peace and prosperity, harmony and amity all through Poetry. The Poet knows no boundaries and barriers; he is beyond barriers and above barriers, national, racial and ethnic. He is Universal Man, SANS malice a singer of songs, a writer poems, born out o1 Truth, concern for the fellow beings, and a craving for a just and better world and nobler Human Race. A Poet's life is a continuous endeavour to find Beauty, Truth, Peace, Freedom and Justice and enthrone them for a saner and better to- morrow".
