Can we keep Saraswati statue at home?

Yes, you can keep the statue of Goddess Saraswati at home, but not anywhere else except on the altar. Saraswati Devi is the consort of Lord Brahma who is the presiding deity of the mode of passion.

Thus, she assists him in creating the material universe. She is revered as the Goddess of speech and knowledge and therefore, we should respect her exalted position. The deity of the Goddess should be worshiped regularly with love and devotion.

Why does Saraswati sit on a swan?

Saraswati Devi, the consort of Lord Brahma, is known as the Goddess of knowledge and she is often depicted seated on a white Swan (Hamsa). The special characteristic of a swan is that with its beak, it is able to extract milk from a mixture of milk and water.

This symbolizes the power of discrimination between good and evil or knowledge (of the Vedas) and ignorance. Goddess Saraswati with one of her arms holds the Vedas to teach the conditioned souls of this material world the importance of knowledge leading to transcendence or self-realization.
