Statues of Goddess Saraswati

How many Saraswati idols can be kept at home?

Devi Saraswati confers the reward of wisdom and divine knowledge to her devotees. In your home, you can keep one goddess Saraswati idol, preferably in the Puja ghar where she is worshipped daily.

You can also keep the Saraswati idol alongside Devi Parvati (Durga) and Lakshmi to receive the powers of the Trinity of Goddesses- “Tridevi”. More than one idol of Devi Saraswati will not bring you any positive results and end up disturbing the balance of energies, as per Vastu.

What is the significance of the Saraswati symbol?

Devi Saraswati is the Hindu goddess that embodies knowledge, arts, music, wisdom, learning, language, oratory, expression, creative work, and anything whose flow purifies the essence and self of a person. Saraswati connotes a river deity.

Her four arms are shown as holding a book, a rosary, a water pot, and a musical instrument called the vena. Each of these items has a symbolic meaning in Hinduism. Other symbols are the color white, lotus, Swan, or peacock.

Goddess Saraswati's four arms symbolize a variety of concepts: Her perseverance and transcendence. Her front arms depict the Goddess' activity in the material realm while the back arms activity in the spiritual realm. The four elements of inner life include mind, intellect, ego, and Consciousness.

Can we keep the Saraswati statue at home?

Yes but must follow the Vastu directions. An idol of Maa Saraswati should be installed in the West or southwest as the place symbolizes education. The Idol must face the East direction and must have sunlight entering that room. As per Vastu, should not keep 3 idols of the same Goddess, as it can bring upheaval and bad luck. Always place an idol of Maa Saraswati near the study table.

Why Saraswati is not worshiped?

In my opinion, it is not true. Saraswati mata is the most worshiped deity. All the schools and colleges have her temples. The Saraswati puja is performed on the Hindu holidays Vasant Panchami and Navratri, and one can perform a Saraswati puja in his home any time he wants to call on Goddess Saraswati. Anyways one doesn’t need to worship his mother for her blessings. Just respect her knowledge, keep learning and use it for the best.

Very often in various mantras and pujas in the Shakta tradition, we worship the Goddesses Saraswati Lakshmi and Durga. There are no restrictions to keep their worship apart. Together they form the Tridevi and are often worshiped as a group.
