This innovative shawl has the distinct quality of having been made of wool and silk. The two are not blended but hold their own ground, one above the other. The base is a thin woollen shawl, covered by a very fine silk fabric. This shawl, with the edges very finely and discreetly stitched in, can be used on either side. The woollen side has squares within squares in black and ochre. The weaving technique applied is tardy as the weaving pattern changes with each shift of design. The silk layer covering the woollen shawl has the floral design that reminds one of the numerous gardens in the valley of Kashmir. It has a different variety of flowers in shades of pink, rust and brown. It does not follow a linear pattern but are scattered all over the field. Stems, leaves and smaller variety of flowers try to outdo each other for space. The pinks and the greens, though toned down, look quite bright on the black background. This twin sided shawl affirms the artistry of the designer and the skill of the weaver.
