This pure silk patola saree is deftly woven with silk and pure zari giving it a green -copper effect. The base is green with splashes of brick red and yellow. This delicate pattern which covers the entire field is worked with precision and clarity with characteristic geometric delineation of the design. Contrary to usual sarees where the border and the pallav hog the limelight, they are less conspicuous here than the field, while maintaining the soft easy outlines, a natural effect of the ikat technique.
Patolas are ceremonial sarees worn on religious and special occasions. Green, anyways, is considered an auspicious color, which makes the saree more special.
The quality of the textile and the discreet use of zari are subtle indications of taste and social grading to a discriminating eye. This saree, with its unique pattern, must have surely put the weavers skill to the utmost test since the patterning in patolas is done at the loom itself. It comes with an unstitched plain copper-green fabric for a matching blouse, which can be stitched to your body measurements free of charge. It has a simple zari stripe, which, when stitched, would run around the sleeve and the bottom of the blouse.
