Hindu rituals believe a sacred image to contain a powerful divine presence. The prayer cloth here not only has the sacred syllable Aum all over the field, it has the iconic image of Shiva and his family on the vertical ends of it. The relationship between the object and worshipper is one of continual recharging and renewal. The sacred object, which also include a prayer cloth, is believed to draw power from the energy of the reverence it receives.

The major part of the field is occupied by the symbol Aum, the chant of which is considered to contain immense power. In the centre is the prominently placed symbol in a circular fame with rays emanating on all sides. Smaller versions of the same are seen around it. Aum is the cosmic vibration, the sound waves formed by this sound develop into shapes that help in connecting the devotee to the divinity. A border with auspicious symbols goes around the Aum symbols.

On the two ends are circular frames with the image of Shiva, his consort Parvati and son Ganesha. Shiva is not only the enigmatic and benevolent god-head, he is the endearingly naive Bhola and thus a favourite with his devotees. Parvati, his ever loving wife stands next to him. Shiva lovingly holds his son Ganesha in his arm and with the other holds his consort close to him.

By just uttering the syllable Aum and bowing to the image of Shiva, divine grace is assured and salvation ensured.
