Keeping the above in mind, the Kashmiri craftsman here has adopted new colours, till now unknown to the traditional embroiderer. Neon green, orange, yellow and pink have been extravagantly used. The pattern itself is far removed from the traditional floral design. Only the base colour is navy blue, the oft used colour of Kashmir shawls. The embroiderer has relied mainly on chain stitches, rarely using the fillin stitch. At some distance are big multi-petalled flowers of neon green, orange and yellow colours.
The colours and the design caters to the international market, made to compliment western dresses.
The refinement of Kashmir work surpasses that done anywhere else in the country. Here, the embroiderer has produced surface design of great intricacy and finesse. In fact, this embroidered Amlikar shawl is a true masterpiece of his art and hereditary skill.
