Baluchari saris come from the land of Bengal. These are traditional saris in which the story of Ramayana and Mahabharata are told in a woven form. These come in very light silks but are exquisitely woven. The weaves are very rich and the features of the characters are woven to perfection.

This sari comes in a beautiful peacock blue color. The butis are a visual treat, which have some finely woven and stylistically poised deer on them. The border of the sari has the forest theme from the Ramayana, where Rama and his brother Lakshmana are in conversation with each other over the golden deer, which Sita desires.

The pallav is the most interesting part of the sari with a variety of themes woven on it. These themes are of Rama and Sita proceeding to exile in the forest for fourteen years and Rama and Lakshmana hunting for the golden deer. These two themes are woven alternately.
