"I request that you protect all horses. Increase the number of mares. For from the mother of the horse many supreme horses will be born. Please disperse the obstacles on the Path and reveal the right direction."
Hayagriva is a wrathful manifestation of Avalokiteshvara. There are believed to be 108 forms of Hayagriva. His special ability is to cure diseases, especially skin diseases even as serious as leprosy, which is said to be caused by the Nagas (malignant water spirits with serpent bodies).
Here we Have the 'super secret' form of Hayagriva, where he is in terrific union with his consort. He is dancing ecstatically even while stepping on human figures, representing obstacles, on a lotus throne. Hayagriva has three heads, six arms, four legs and powerful wings. He is embracing his consort with his two principal hands. Each head of Hayagriva has three staring eyes, moustache on the sides of the mouth and short beard and each head wears five-skull crown. His hair rises like flames. Her right leg is extended along his, while the left is wrapped around his waist. She is adorned with a crown of skulls. There is a wisdom fire aureole behind the pair.
This sculpture was created in the city of Patan, the 'cultural capital' of Nepal.
