14" Nataraja- Tandava Dance on Apasmara Purusha

$315

See It In Your Home

There is a demon called Apasmara under the foot of lord shiva in dancing form (Natraj). Apasmara represents both ignorance and epilepsy.

The myth of Apasmara states that to ensure the knowledge in the world is preserved, he could not be killed. Thus, he is destined for immortality.

According to another myth, since Lord Shiva could not destroy Apasmara, he instead took the form of the Lord of the Dance, Nataraja.

He performed tandava, the cosmic dance, to suppress Apasmara and managed to crush him under his right foot.

Thus, because Apasmara must remain immortal, Lord Shiva must remain forever in this form, suppressing Apasmara forever.

The enthralling Nataraja, the King of Dance, has four arms. The first holds the fine-looking damru representing the rhythmic sound to which Nataraja dances. The second hand is raised in blessing, the Abhaya mudra (the "fear not" gesture). The third carries sacred Agni (fire). The right leg, representing elegance, rests upon the head of Apasmara Purusha, a soul representing inertia. The uplifted left foot grants eternal bliss to those who approach him. The fourth hand across the chest lies in an elephant-trunk pose, fingers pointed down toward the uplifted foot.

The turbulent cobra around Nataraja's waist is kundalini shakti, the cosmic power resident within all. The locks of his hair stand out in many strands. His locks are decked and scattered with the sacred river Ganges. Nataraja portrays a snake coiled around his upper arms and neck symbolizing the power he has over the most deadly of creatures. All the elements of visual aesthetics are absorbed in this unique relic. You must have this Nataraja in your dwelling for bliss, happiness, pleasure, and positivity.
