ASSAM MAN AND WOMAN
One among the seven States in India's North-Eastern region, Assam has a rich but distinct cultural identity. The natives are tribals of mongloid race and a majority of them are engaged in agriculture and agro- based industries.
The man wears a dhoti and a chadar. The Assamese woman wears the traditional 'mekhala and chadar' which consists of two pieces. A straight cut full length skirt, the lower half of which is woven and the chadar, another length of cloth also woven, is wrapped round the upper half of the body like a half saree. These are worn with a blouse.
