Bhairava is often depicted in an enraged state, with large menacing eyes, blazing hair, tiger's teeth, snake coiled around his neck and a crown of skulls. His third eye represents endless supreme wisdom. His origins can be traced back as an incarnation of Lord Shiva to teach Lord Brahma a lesson by severing one of his five heads. The skull got stuck to his hand which also explains the iconographic image of Bhairava depicted in most temples. Dissecting the meaning of 'Bhairava', 'Bhai' means light while 'Rava' means echo. He is worshipped not only by Hindus, but also Buddhists and Jains, who pray to him to vanquish their rivals and attain success. This majestic mask is made of heavy brass and weighs 1.2kg.
