Lord Hanuman is known to be a popular symbol of strength and selfless devotee of Lord Rama in Hinduism. It is said that he is the only God who is still present on Earth in various forms as per Sita’s blessing of being there for his devotees forever.
The sculptor has kept up to the key characteristics of Lord Hanuman of devotion, courage, and self-discipline while carving out this sculpture, as can be seen through the precise shape and formation of his body stance, with the head held up in confidence, back straight and a perfect and smooth curve of his legs as he sits on his knee support on a stylized round pedestal.
Every part of the pedestal is amazingly carved in multiple layers at the circumference and detailed floral chisels beautify the platform on which Lord Hanuman sits. Zoom in to the explicit carves of his short dhoti, visible through his left thigh, suggestive of the effective execution of sculptor’s imagination, and the rich silk stole that runs through his shoulders are decorated with motifs of flowers and indicates towards Lord Hanuman’s essence of royalty.
This stance of Hanuman symbolizes his giving and peaceful nature, blessing devotees of fearlessness, and the mace (Gada- Hanuman’s sacred weapon) turned downwards on the pedestal shows that he is always available without a doubt for his devotees. Highlighted multiple pendant, necklaces and kundals complement with the royal crown, decorated with a flower-like brooch in the center and a halo formed with the flower petals.
Hanuman’s tail is one of the most powerful organs of his body as it is insulated with all the powers given by various divine forces, so great importance of it is assumed in Hanuman’s worship for being free of all the demonic forces. Keeping such value in mind the sculptor has given due importance while carving out his tail, by forming a good border to his halo.
