The captivating aspect in this statue Is not only Lord Kubera himself, but also the way it is sculpted, its beauty, uniqueness, use of colors, gold plating and flashy glow and smoothness. Kubera is gifted with devotees from multiple forms of religions, such as Hinduism regards him as the Lord of wealth and riches, in Buddhism, he is Vaisravana, one of the four heavenly kings and Jainism accounts him as an attendant of Yaksha. Although Vedic texts describe him as a demon but he is a Lokpala (world protector) and a dikpala (guardian) in the North.
He sits here on a richly carved lotus pedestal carrying a pomegranate in his right hand a Mongoose in his left. Being the god of treasures, he is always ornamented in abundance of glowing jewels in the usual dwarf figure and a paunchy belly. The uniqueness and worthiness are because of this copper statue been gilded with 24 karat gold accentuating its expansive beauty, shine and interplay of colors.
Adorned in a stylish carved dhoti and a stole that crosses over his shoulders and flows down in elegance. Note the vibrant and fierce expression of his eyes with blue colored fangs protruding out and small hairs flowing upwards like that of Jambhala, an equated deity of Kubera; pointed nose, sharp and straight eyebrows, small mark on his forehead representing the third eye with the luxurious carved crown are some of the applauding aspects of the sculptor’s skills.
