‘Surabhyai Cha Namo Namah’ – The One who fulfils devotees’ wishes, is this proud ‘panchaloha’ bronze image of the divine ‘gomata’ or mother cow, Kamadhenu. Deriving its name from the Sanskrit ‘Kamaduha’ which literally means ‘the cow of plenty,’ this aspect of bovine femineity is miraculous and wish fulfilling. Understood to be in close companionship with the aspect of Devi as Prithvi, Indologists understand Kamadhenu to be the abode of all Hindu gods, where her four legs stand for the four Vedas. Similar to the Surabhi bronze image accessed on our website here, this three inch figure, majestic on a raised rectangular pedestal, is the sacred white cow with a female head and breasts, the wings of a bird, and the tail of a peafowl. Her most enduring legend ascribes her existence to the churning of the cosmic ocean, the ‘samudra manthan.’
