Kalachakra has four heads, with three eyes in each head. He has twenty-four arms and each hand holds a different symbol. His two main arms are crossed around the waist of his consort, holding a vajra (thunderbolt) and ghanta (bell) respectively.
He stands in the militant alidha posture with one leg bent and the other stretched. Underneath Kalachakra's outstretched right leg is Kamadeva (desire-realm god) with one face and four hands. Under his bent left foot lies the four-armed Rudra. Vishvamata in her turn also has four heads and hands, each of the latter holding different symbolic implements.
The artist has endowed the two figures with slender forms and the fan-like cluster of multiple arms dominates the composition. The wrathful features of the deities have been rendered realistically and with vigor. The fiery halo behind the embracing couple is made of orange and red flames and signifies the brilliant fires of final dissolution.
This sculpture was created in the ancient city of Lalitpur (Patan), near Kathmandu (Nepal).
