Tara's right hand is in the varadamudra, or the boon granting gesture, while the left holds the stem of a fully-blooming lotus, symbolizing the ripeness of her own youth. A flaming, stylized nimbus frames her head, at the either side of which can be seen dwarfish figures (yakshas) adoring the goddess. The apex of the composition is adorned with a kirtimukha (mask of glory).
Heavily influenced by Pala sculptures, the modelling is both taut yet delicate - an embodiment of sophistication and serene elegance. The compassion that is Tara's principal virtue is well reflected in her smiling demeanour and disarming expression.
