The river-goddess Ganga is mentioned for the first time in the Rig Veda. In the Vedic period, she existed only as a concept but as Hinduism developed and grew, goddess Ganga transformed into a beautiful maiden and her representations were installed on the main gate of shrines to purify the sacred space and anyone entering it. It is believed that her blessings rid the devotees of all impurities and help them attain moksha.

In iconography, Devi Ganga is shown as an exquisite woman, standing or sitting on a Makara or crocodile. Goddess Ganga’s act of riding a reptile suggests that one should keep one’s fears in control and use the mental faculties in search of pure knowledge. This handmade brass goddess Ganga statue presents the goddess sitting in Lalitasana (posture of royalty). In her hands, she holds a rosary, Amrit Kalash (pot holding the elixir of life), and water lily, and her main right hand is raised in Varada Mudra. Place this brass murti in your home to cleanse it of all impure and evil effects and welcome the regenerative energies of goddess Ganga.
