A standing Ganesha is one of the most rarely seen postures of Ganesha sculptures. Here he stands diligently on a thick pedestal having a green grassy platform with the mouse towards his left foot, busy eating modak. This sculpture is chiselled out of a single piece of white translucent marble that allows light to enter and produce a soft glow while retaining its high polish. Have a look at the beautifully decorated long trunk in red and gold along with the complementing tusks and a finite Shaivite tilak on his forehead.
Ganesha is the lord of everyman, his childish and obedient nature makes him a lovable deity among the masses and he is worshipped as the primary god before starting with any event. Garbed in a long bright yellow dhoti that falls soft on his feet and a green and white kamarband, both decorated with royal and dark borders. The most alluring attire is the long shrug styled stole that falls till the pedestal in beauteous frills, a check border and horizontal shiny stripes. The sacred janeu that runs through his portly belly aptly goes with his precious jewels and haloed crown.
Chaturbhuja has the anterior hands in his iconic gestures and rear hands hold an axe and lotus respectively. Zoom in to the stylishly structured elephant ears and the intense eyes inclined in a beauteous angle. That essence of purity and divinity can be clearly felt by looking at the charm and perfect curvatures of this sculpture.
How to clean and maintain marble statues?
Marble has been a preferred material for sculptors and artists for more than a thousand years. It is a rock that undergoes metamorphism which causes recrystallization of the original carbonate mineral grains. Marble comes in various colors, designs, and dimensions. Pure white marble is the most preferred type of marble for making sculptures and statues since time immemorial. White marble is especially used for sculpting stone monumental sculptures since ancient times. The natural shine and luster of the carbonate crystals of white marble give a lavish and beautiful appearance to the statue.
Marble stone statues are highly durable and can even withstand harsh weather conditions without getting corroded, therefore, they can be kept indoors or outdoors without getting damaged or weathered. Although these statues can last for many decades, their regular care and cleaning are essential to increase their longevity and beautiful appearance.
Marble statues need periodical cleaning to maintain their flawless look. However, harsh and deep cleaning can result in making the statue look dull. If your marble statue is withering away, it is recommended to take the help of a professional cleaner. Marble is a delicate material and therefore needs proper care.
