Embodiments of Divine Cycles

This exquisite set captures the essence of the Dashavtara, the ten principal avatars or divine incarnations of Lord Vishnu, the preserver in the Hindu pantheon. These figures represent Vishnu's interventions in the cosmic cycle to restore dharma, protect righteousness, and vanquish evil throughout the ages. Each sculpture is a testament to the rich artistic heritage of Swamimalai, a renowned centre for traditional bronze casting in South India. The intricate details and the warm, enduring glow of the bronze bring these celestial beings to life, making them a focal point of devotion and aesthetic appreciation.

Mythological Narratives in Bronze

From the primordial Matsya, the fish who saved humanity from a great flood, to the yet-to-come Kalki, the warrior who will usher in a new era, each avatar tells a profound story. The set likely includes the serene Boar (Varaha) raising the Earth, the powerful Man-lion (Narasimha) protecting his devotee, the wise Dwarf (Vamana) tricking the demon king Bali, and the mighty warrior Rama, embodying duty and virtue. The compassionate Parasurama, the cosmic teacher Buddha, and the triumphant Krishna are also integral to this divine lineage. These avatars, each with their unique form and purpose, symbolize the ceaseless cycles of creation, preservation, and destruction that govern the universe, and Vishnu's benevolent role in maintaining cosmic balance.

A Legacy of Craftsmanship

Crafted using age-old techniques in Swamimalai, these bronze sculptures embody a tradition passed down through generations of artisans. The skilled hands that shaped these figures have imbued them with a divine spirit, evident in the delicate rendering of divine attributes and the graceful postures. The choice of bronze, a metal known for its durability and ability to hold intricate detail, ensures that these divine forms will grace your space for years to come, becoming cherished heirlooms. Their compact size makes them versatile, perfect for placement on altars, shelves, or as a distinguished addition to any collection seeking to connect with the spiritual and artistic heritage of India. Displaying this Dashavtara set is not merely an act of decoration, but an invitation to contemplate the profound philosophical and mythological narratives that have shaped civilizations.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
