Andhra Pradesh
(Muslim Bride)
Situated on the east coast of India, Andhra Pradesh is the largest of the four southern states of India. It has a large Muslim community, especially in and around Hyderabad, which was once the princely domain of the Nizam.
The Muslim brides from the wealthy families of Hyderabad dress according to their family tradition. The bridal attire consists mainly of a lower garment, the churidar a tight pyjama with lots of folds. The upper garment is called the kameez almost like a long shirt, heavily decorated with silver or gold border or both. The head covering, used as a symbol of modesty, is also heavily decorated with silver or gold.
