Lord Narasimha is considered to be the fourth Avatara of Lord Vishnu among the Dasa Avataras. Narasimha Deva who appeared in the form of part lion and part man outsmarted the demoniac King Hiranyakashipu, who thought that after having received a special benediction from Lord Brahma, he could never die in any circumstances. Thus, His appearance shows us that the individual soul, being in a position of a servant, can never outsmart the Supreme Lord. The fact that Shri Narasimha appeared from a stone pillar just when the atheist Hiranyakashipu was attempting to kill his son Prahlada, who was a five-year-old devotee of the Supreme Lord, demonstrates that He is present in every single atom, and comes to protect His devotees who fully surrender to Him.

On the magnificent throne in the shape of a Lotus flower, the Lord is seated with a Lion head, and human torso and lower body. The fierce look on His face and eyes filled with rage depict the fury with which He fights the demon in order to protect the beloved devotee. He carries weapons such as Conch shell in the upper left hand, a symbol of purity, and the Sudarshan Chakra in the upper right hand, for the destruction of the enemies, while the lower right hand lies in Abhaya Mudra for blessing the devotees. Anyone can find this sculpture enthralling and gratifying because of the detailing that gives it a realistic appearance. May He appear in our hearts to drive away our ignorance so that we can come out of the illusion of believing this material world to be everything.
