The contemporary finds unlimited scope for the free play of the creative imagination where Ganesha images are concerned. There is no medium that this god is not depicted on, no posture that is left unportrayed, in illusion, in realism and now in abstraction is the god here, sitting in utkutikaasana (a sitting posture in which the heels are brought together and kept close to the bottom). He holds the noose and the elephant goad in two hands they may not be very clear in their abstract form but there is no doubt about their symbolism: the noose to catch delusion (moha), the obstacles in the way of those seeking spiritual progress; the goad, insignia of the ruler of the universe. His front right hand is held in abhaya mudra and the left one holds a modakapatra containing modakas, Ganesha's favorite sweet cakes, without which he is rarely represented.
This wonderful piece is superior with its elegance of design, excellence in casting and rich colouring.
