Agastya, a revered sage, holds a unique place in the annals of ancient wisdom. As one of the Saptarishi, the seven most venerated sages in Vedic texts, his wisdom is celebrated across traditions. In the Tamil Siddhar tradition within Shaivism, he is regarded as a luminary who crafted an early grammar of the Old Tamil language, known as Agattiyam. His groundbreaking contributions extended to the development of Tampraparniyan medicine and spiritual knowledge, fostering spiritual centers in proto-era Sri Lanka and South India. It's no wonder he graces the Chola bronze sculptures, a testament to his enduring influence.
Agastya is also acknowledged as the father of Siddha medicine, endowing the world with his profound healing insights. His illustrious presence weaves through numerous itihasas and Puranas, including the grand epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata, where his wisdom continues to shine as a guiding light for generations.
