Varaha, the boar-faced incarnation of Sri Vishnu is one of the Dashavatars, the ten forms taken by the great preserver and sustainer of Brahma’s Srishti (creation). In this bronze statue, Sri Varaha is depicted in the characteristic iconography of Vishnu, standing upright in the Sampadasthanaka posture, on a beautifully delineated inverted lotus. Chaturbhuja or four-armed (like Vishnu), Varaha holds the Shankha or conch and Chakra or discus in his secondary hands, and with his primary hands makes the Abhaya and Varada mudra, the gesture of fearlessness and giving boons.
Ornamented regally with the Vaishnava Kiritamukuta crown, U-shaped Tilak on the forehead, delicate jewelry, and a dhoti, this statue of Varaha emphasizes his oneness with Vishnu and evokes the presence of Varaha as an omnipresent protector of his devotees.
