This Lakshmi Vilakku is the epitome of good luck and prosperity. A fine combination of fire ritual and divine imagery, this lamp depicts Goddess Lakshmi seated on a lotus and Lord Kubera and his consort Bhadra (Kuberi) sitting under her shadow and blessing the devotees. The entire image is further assisted with sacred images of Kamdhenu (cow), Parijata (tree), Kirtimukha, and the horse. Shri Kubera is also shown carrying a mongoose, which according to folktales helped Kubera defeat the snakes, as they are natural predators of the reptiles.
The lamp consists of a deep oil basin to assist the burning of wick for a longer period. The structure of the lamp is sturdy with a well-defined base decorated with traditional lotus petal engravings. It is believed that lighting the Kubera- Lakshmi Lamp on the full moon of Karthik (October- November) month of the Hindu calendar attracts prosperity and welcomes goddess Lakshmi’s entrance into the devoted home.
