Mayura is a Sanskrit word for peacock which is one of the sacred birds of the Hindu mythology. It is referred to in a number of Hindu scriptures.
In Hinduism, the Peacock is associated with Saraswati, a deity representing benevolence, patience, kindness, compassion and knowledge.
It is also identified with the Goddess of wealth, Lakshmi and the Mayura named Paravani serves as the conveyance of the god Kartikeya and its feathers are the general depiction of Krishna.

According to Hindu religious beliefs, the peacock was created from one of the feathers of the mythological bird Garuda.
This was a huge majestic bird which carried Lord Vishnu on its back. Mayura is also thought to promote good mental health because looking at it can mentally calm an individual down. There are also many legends regarding peacocks which act as a strengthening force for Hindus over their religion.
