Abhishek Patras are used to bathe the pious statues or idols of a God or Goddess to please them. This ceremony is known as “Abhishekam” and is considered a very important devotional service because it purifies our consciousness and increases our love and devotion towards the Lord. Abhishek Patras come in different sizes, shapes, and designs depending upon the number of idols to be placed and bathed.
This one is suitable for the daily worship of a small deity. The tray of the Patra is used to place the deity, where it is worshiped and bathed with holy water, milk, honey, yogurt, rose water, sugar syrup, and fruit juices. Some specific mantras and hymns are also recited during this ritual. Different beautiful and fragrant flowers are also showered upon the deities. The tray of this Patra has an outlet from where all the liquid ingredients are allowed to pour down into a separate vessel where they are collected and mixed. The mixture obtained is known as Charanamrita or the elixir of life which is distributed among all the temple guests. The body of this Patra is given a unique shape and the motifs are inspired from the art of South India. The shining and smooth surface of the Patra makes it appear attractive.
