According to Tolkappiyam (the oldest extant of long work of Tamil literature), Perumal is considered to be another name of Vishnu and the deity is associated with the forests. He is also known as Purushottama, and is considered the Supreme Being in Vaishnavism. Here, Lord Perumal has been described, standing on a lotus pedestal, having four arms, holding Kaumodaki (Mace), Panchajanya Shankha, and the Sudarshana Chakra, signifying Lord Perumal’s role as the protector and preserver of Dharma (Righteousness). His right hand is in Abhaya Mudra, symbolising fearlessness, courage and strength. Sculpted in bronze, this artwork signifies cosmic order, strength, and protection.
