In Hindu Tradition, Goddess Meenakshi, also known as Aṅgayaṟkaṇṇi, Mīnāṭci, and Taḍādakai, is the ethereal embodiment of grace and power. As the tutelary deity of Madurai, Goddess Meenakshi gracefully merges divinity and beauty. She is the incarnation (avatar) of Devi Parvati and the celestial consort to Sundareśvarar (a form of Lord Shiva). This divine transformation was born of a boon bestowed upon her ardent devotee, Vidyavati.
In this mesmerising bronze depiction, Goddess Meenakshi stands upon a lotus, symbolising purity, prosperity and abundance. She bears a bouquet, accompanied by a parrot—a testament to her mastery of the 64 Arts. Adorned in regal attire, Goddess Meenakshi beckons worshippers to unravel the profound significance of her form, an invitation to delve into the mysteries of knowledge and divine blessings.
