Crafted in bronze, this divine artwork depicts the episode, known as the “Kaliya Mardana Lila”, or “Kaliya Naag Mardan”, where Lord Krishna subdues and dances upon the multi-headed serpent named Kalinga (Kaliya).
According to legends, the poisonous snake Kalinga (Kaliya) inhabited and poisoned the river Yamuna, causing great distress to the cowherds as well as the flora and fauna of Vrindavan. Seeing their suffering, Krishna dived into the river and defeated the evil serpent.
In essence, Lord Krishna's dance on the Kalinga snake represents the triumph of righteousness over negativity, the triumph of divine love over ego. This enchanting work of art inspires believers to seek inner purification and escape from the entanglements of earthly illusions.
