Mariamman, also called Karumariamman, is a powerful manifestation of the great goddess in South India who protects those who worship her from illness and bad fortune and bestows riches upon them. In this brass statue, the head of Devi Angala Paramaeshwari is placed beneath the foot of the goddess Mariamman, signifying the complete elimination of self or ego in order to attain the benevolence of Mariamman. Devi Mariamman is seated on a Padmasana or lotus throne, adorned in a regal tone with a serpent hood haloing her divine visage.
