Hansvahini, one who has a Swan as her vehicle, goddess Saraswati is the great mother who bestows the boons of Wisdom-both worldly and divine. Her blessings are vital for a student, artist, poet and person indulged in a creative activity to excel in her field. Maa Saraswati sits on a lotus flower, in Lalitasana, the posture of Kings and royals. The regality of goddess Saraswati is also displayed in her ornaments. From her beautiful crown to her Nishka (necklace made from gold coins), this brass murti has successfully captured the beauty that lies in wisdom. The chatrubhuja (four-limbed) Devi holds a Veena, a jap mala (rosary) and the Veda in three of her hands. With her right hand, she makes the gesture of fearlessness. A gorgeous Swan can be seen bending and pecking at her feet. The bird symbolises a sharp wit that can distinguish between boastful and true knowledge. The hamsa's(Swan) association with goddess Saraswati highlights the belief that when one acquires knowledge, she can ably tell the difference between shallow and deep knowledge.
