Goddess Gajalakshmi is revered in many parts of the country. She receives special worship on the full moon day of Ashwin (September- October) month of the Hindu calendar. She has been mentioned as the deity of prosperity in many Vedic texts and by many poets. Her images are found in all kinds of ritualistic objects due to her reputation for bringing divine energy. This brass lamp with her image is a beautiful example of the same. Here Goddess Gajalakshmi is shown seated under a Kirtimukha throne with an elaborate design and a Kalash atop. The oil basin of the lamp is deep and well accommodated to function as a long burning lamp. In Vedic texts, it is mentioned that burning this lamp brings good luck and prosperity to the space where it is placed. It is hence preferred by many during the festival seasons.
