Inspired by the icons of Vishnu with Sri Devi and Bhudevi and representing the divinity of Krishna as the avatar of the Hindu preserver god, these granite statues depict Sri Krishna accompanied by his twin wives, Rukmini and Satyabhama.
Devi Rukmini, the form of Lakshmi appears on the right of Krishna, identified by the Kuchabandha or breast band, a traditional ornament reserved in Hindu icons for the chief wife of the gods.
Satyabhama, the emnation of Bhudevi stands to the left, equally beautiful and gracefully positioned.
Flanked by goddesses of wealth and fertility, Krishna assumes the aura of Vishnu-Narayana, with his upright Sampadasthanaka pose and Katihastha mudra (hand placed on waist).
A blissful expression floats on his face, softening the granite stone. The elongated Kiritamukuta crown is embellished with a peacock feather, which along with the flute held in his right hand, identifies the Lord as Krishna. Each detail exquisitely carved, the statues represent the ideal of Krishna devotees, for whom he and his wives are the supreme beings, the Parameshwara and Parameshwari, who protect and nurture the Universe.
