Bhuwaneshwari (the goddess of the world) in Devi Mahabhagavata Purana is the creation, sustenance, and destruction of the world.
Devi Bhuwaneshwari is also one of the Dashamahavidyas, revered as the deity of Karnataka state. In this large granite statue, the goddess appears as the queen mother, seated on a lotus throne that symbolizes creation.
She sits in the regal Lalitasana, with her leg placed on a lotus. Devi’s hair is tied in a long Jatamukuta (crown of tresses), adorned by a crescent moon, an ornamentation similar to Mahadeva Shiva.
Bhuwaneshwari is chaturbhuja (four-armed), with a noose, goad, and gestures of Abhaya and Varada (fearlessness and giving boons).
Her characteristic as the most beautiful woman in all the creation is depicted by her youthful form, blissful smile, ample bosom, thin waist, and a powerful yet graceful pose. The embodiment of the Pancha-mahabhutas (five elements) that created the Universe, Bhuwaneshwari is the enchantress of the lord who enchants the world- “Bhuwana-Mohana-Mohini”
