Saint Thiruvalluvar, also known as Valluvar, is a revered ancient Tamil poet and philosopher who is best known for his literary masterpiece, the “Tirukkural”. The Tirukkural is a classic Tamil text consisting of 1,330 couplets, or “Kurals”, divided into three sections - Aram (Virtue), Porul (Wealth), and Inbam (Love). Each Kural is a concise and profound verse that imparts ethical, moral, and practical guidance for leading a righteous life. The brevity of the verses and the depth of their meaning have earned Thiruvalluvar the title “Kuralarasan”, meaning the King of Couplets. His teachings on ethics, morality, and righteous living continue to resonate with people, transcending time and cultural boundaries. Thiruvalluvar’s contribution to literature and ethical philosophy has left an enduring legacy, making him a cultural icon in the rich tapestry of Tamil heritage.
