Mahalakshmi is the Hindu goddess who blesses the attainment of the greatest (maha) goals (lakshya).
Often revered alongside Sri Vishnu as the supreme mother of the Universe, Mahalakshmi is presented in this divine granite sculpture as “Padmasana”- seated on a lotus throne that symbolizes the cosmos ruled by her.
Mahalakshmi is Chaturbhuja, carrying lotuses and Abhaya and Varada mudra. She is adorned with a long Kiritamukuta crown of Vaishnava deities, necklaces, Skandhabhushana (shoulder ornaments), Kuchabandha (breast band), sacred thread, and dhoti.
A Kirtimukha prabhavali with Makara, mythical animals associated with Vishnu and embodiments of divinity and royalty surround Mahalakshmi.
The finesse of this granite artwork is appealing especially with the natural delineation of the beautiful form of the goddess, the subtle animation revealed on her face, and the delicateness of her hands and feet folded in the lotus pose.
