An example of the finesse and aura of a Swamimalai bronze, this sculpture is a rare masterpiece, depicting Murugan or Shanmukha (six-headed) in his powerful twelve-armed form, accompanied by his Shaktis- Devasena and Valli, the most sacred, ritually complete and aesthetically rich statue of the Hindu god.

Placed on a two-tiered portable platform, Murugan and his wives are highlighted by a stylized peacock feather aura, each feather taking after the beauty and potent appearance of Shanmukha’s Vel (spear), sculpted with precision on the obverse and reverse of the statute.

Wearing conical crowns and Makara earrings, Murugan assumes the attitude of a king, poised and stable on the peacock, his legs becoming the throne for the exquisite Devasena on his right and Valli on his left.

Parani, the peacock of Murugan adorned with jewels, clutches a serpent in its claws, symbolizing its powers to quell enemies in the battleground. The Vel and the rooster flag of Murugan stand on each side of the peacock as if arranging the composition in perfect symmetry. A coming together of Gyana (wisdom embodied by Murugan), Iccha, and Kriya (will and action manifested by Devasena and Valli), this bronze is a vision of cosmic perfection.
