Lord Ganesh is shown as having five faces in Panchmukhi Ganesha. Panch literally translates to “Five”, and Mukhi to “Faced”. The term Panchmukhi Ganesha comes from the fact that each of the god’s faces facing a different way. Ganesha in the Panchmukhi form is revered as the embodiment of all powers. When it comes to warding off evil spirits and things that happen unconsciously, Panchamukha Ganapati is extremely powerful. It will do wonders to have a Panchamukhi Vinayaka or five-faced Ganesha statue facing east in a house or place of business. A devotee can achieve Anandamaya Kosha, or Sat-Chit-Ananda, the Pure Consciousness, by worshipping Panchamukhi Ganapati. It is said that facing Panchamukhi Vinayaka eastward at one’s residence or workplace can help fend off evil and provide prosperity.
