Exalted in the text Maitreya Vyakarana as the Future Buddha, who will descend on the earth and spread the teachings of pure Dhamma, Bodhisattva Maitreya is presented in this handcrafted Nepalese camphor wood statue, standing on the lotus platform, a symbol of Enlightenment, as the embodiment of the heavenly bliss of supreme wisdom which has the powers to safeguard the entire human race.
The wooden Bodhisattva Maitreya has donned a distinctive monastic robe, wrapped around his lower body in the form of a beautiful skirt whose soft folds are delineated through gently carved vertical lines. In the upper section of the wooden Maitreya, the end piece of the robe embellished with a series of flowing floral creepers, covers the torso of the Bodhisattva, with some of its pleats falling over his left shoulder. The transcendental Buddha Maitreya is beautified by befitting heavenly adornments such as the distinct Nepalese crown, circular earrings, a finely carved necklace, armbands, and bracelets. The wooden Maitreya statue carries a Buddhist alms bowl in his left hand and the gesture of fearlessness in his right.
Even with the simplistic carving of this camphor wood Maitreya, the maker has managed to add the auspicious three lines on his neck and a face that calms the mind. A humble yet effective depiction of the Bodhisattva, this wooden Maitreya conveys the benevolent message of the future Buddha faultlessly.
