The traditional Indian lamp such as the one you see on this page is pregnant with many meanings. To begin with, the emanating light is symbolic of vidya (awareness) which dispels the darkness of avidya (ignorance). More importantly, the lit lamp is the very image of the simultaneous existence of the triguna and the predominance of sattvaguna over them all.
An ornate, standing lamp that would look good in an auspicious corner of your home or office. A slender stem balanced on a tri-legged base, each the shape of a flatly curving vine. A tray of five discrete deep-bottomed lamps immediately above the same, followed by a smaller, shallower tray of five continuous lamps.
One may appreciate the brass handiwork as one gazes up the stem. Further above are eight lamps quite apart from each other, arranged in concentric circular rows of four lamps each and seemingly protruding from a slender sprig of dangling vine. Finally, above another tray of continuous lamps is a gorgeously plumaged peacock, which makes for a quintessentially Indian image.
