"Linga Vedi Umadevi, Linga Sakshan Maheshwara"- "The vedi or altar of the Linga is Devi Uma Parvati and the Linga represents Shiva". Taken from the pages of the sacred Hindu text, Linga Purana, these lines outline the potency of a Shiva Linga, which is the most popularly revered form of Mahadeva in Hinduism. According to the Puranic tradition, a Shiva Lingam is the condensed form of the cosmic pillar of fire- a form in which Shiva appeared in front of Brahma and Vishnu. After resolving the conflict, Mahadeva narrated the glories of worshiping him in the form of a Lingam, an anionic, or Nirguna Roopa of Shiva. Adorned with the Tripunda, this stone Lingam is ideal to be worshipped in your place of worship, where you can perform regular rituals and meditate upon Mahadeva, earning all the merits for this world and the next.
