Shanmukha- “he who has six heads”, is the powerful warrior aspect of Kumara Kartikeya or Murgan, worshiped as the Hindu Lord of war and wisdom.
In this magnificent bronze of Murugan, adorned by the Tripunda on his forehead, the Lord smiles blissfully, bringing a contrasting yet complementing aura to his 12-armed battle-ready appearance.
Resting on his hands in Abhaya and Varadha mudra (gesture of fearlessness and giving boons) are Murgan’s emblems, perfectly balanced on the pedestal- the Vel and dhwaja or flag with rooster or kukutta motif.
On a platform sprouting from Murugan’s two-tiered lotus throne sits his mount Mayura or peacock, adorned with three strings with bells around his firmly raised neck. The beautiful bird appears alert and stern, assuming the stance of a warrior ready for war, with its foe, the serpent clenched in its claws- mirroring the charm and might of his Lord.
