22'' Goddess Lakshmi | Madhuchista Vidhana (Lost-Wax) | Panchaloha Bronze from Swamimalai
Goddess Lakshmi, also known as “Shree” is the goddess of wealth, fortune, Power, Beauty, and fertility. The spectacular piece of art depicts lord Lakshmi sitting on a lotus pedestal, carrying the lotus in her two hands. Her front right hand is held up in the ‘Abhaya’ mudra while her left hand is in the Varada mudra giving boons to her devotees. The lotus carries symbolic meanings in Hinduism, symbolises knowledge, self-realisation, and liberation in the Vedic context, and represents reality, consciousness, and karma (‘work, deed’) in the Tantra context.
The Panchaloha Bronze statues of Goddess Lakshmi, which represent wealth, fortune, and spiritual success, are made in Swamimalai, a renowned centre of ancient Indian art, using the Madhuchista Vidhana or Lost-Wax technique. The goddess Lakshmi statue is said to bring wealth, fortune, and prosperity when placed at the northeast direction of the home.
