With three-wick lamps attached so the devotees can worship him with ease and an intricately designed kirtimukha prabhavali, this auspicious wall hanging hosts Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. As he is called that, he is the one who is worshipped before any auspicious event. Between his feet lies the praying form of Mushak, his vahan. Mushak is a mouse who used to be a demon. When he was creating chaos, Lord Ganesha was sent by the gods to fight him and when he was defeated, he agreed to remain in service of the elephant god for as long as needed. All gods have a vahan who is worshipped along with them. The reason why Mushak was turned into a mouse is that no matter the size of the creations of the universe, they are viewed equally and loved all the same by Lord Ganesha. Mice are quick creatures who can travel anywhere—even places nobody can reach—without needing much space. Thus, him being Lord Ganesha’s vahan means that the lord has his eyes everywhere and is ready to help his devotees whenever they need him, regardless of what place on this planet they’re on. All his devotees have to do is close their eyes and believe in him.
