20'' Lord Varaha with Goddess Lakshmi | Madhuchista Vidhana (Lost-Wax) | Panchaloha Bronze from Swamimalai
Varaha, the boar shown in this sculpture is considered to be the third avatar of Lord Vishnu. In this incarnation, Lord Vishnu destroyed the demon Hiranyaksha who was pushing the earth into the water and thus saved the earth from getting submerged in the river. In this sculpture, Lord Vraha is depicted with Lakshmi who is Vishnu’s wife and the goddess of wealth, seated on Varaha’s lap. Varaha is carrying two objects that Vishnu often carries i.e., a conch and a discus. Swamimalai Kumbakonam Bronze is considered to be authentic bronze which is used to create idols out of the five metals known as Panchaloha. For home temple prayers, Panchaloha is the recommended material for spiritual or religious idols.
It is said that worshipping Lord Varaha bestows upon the devotee all forms of bliss, including health, joy, success, and wealth. So, this sculpture will be a perfect fit for the home temple.
