As if a scene of the Vishnu-Loka (Vishnu’s abode) in bronze, this statue is a powerful and assuring vision, sculpted in classic Swamimalai style.
Lakshmi-Narayana with the heavenly bird Garuda is an image that represents the swiftness of the supreme nurturers, ready to plunge into the affairs of the Manushya-Loka (human realm), upon one call from their devotees.
Usually appearing as “Garudaseena” (seated on Garuda) Lakshmi-Narayan sit surrounded by an elaborate aureole, with Yali pillars, Makara on secondary pillars, and Kiritimukha emblem, on a lotus throne that symbolises the Universe.
Assuming a devotional aura, the mighty bird Garuda becomes the center of attraction, with his hands extended forward, eye gazing sternly ahead, adorned with ornaments made from his foes- Naga (serpents). Sculpted in a rounded manner, the bronze is embellished with a green patina, that elevates its asthetic value, enhancing the significance of this rare image of Lakshmi-Narayana.
