In Tirumala, he went to sit under the shade of one of the trees in the hills. There, he closed his eyes and began meditating, hoping that he would get a glimpse of his lord. Just then, a child, creating noise, began to disturb Hathiram. He asked the little boy to go away as he did not want any distractions. However, he later came to know that the little child was none other than Lord Venkateshwara himself. He penanced for his mistake and invoked him by the name of Balaji as he appeared to him in the form of a child. Here, he holds the Sudarshana chakra (discus) and a conch in two of his hands, weapons ready to defend his people if need be. One of his hands is in the unusal katya vilambita hastha mudra, which is his way of assuring the devotees that he would never let the waters of a flood go above their hip.
