19" Standing Thousand Armed Avalokiteshvara Statue From Nepal

$1975

The Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara was wrecked when he witnessed the misery of earthlings. Avalokiteshvara's head erupted when his love for humans reached its peak. Amitabha then replaced his head with ten heads, whose own head can be seen on the top.  The Compassionate One is shown as a massive cosmic pillar standing between the realm of humans and the abode of the gods in this mesmerizing copper statue of the Bodhisattva. His three heads stand in for the zenith, the center, and the nadir, while his eight other heads represent the eight cardinal directions.

The tenth face of Avalokiteshvara, which belongs to his father Amitabha, has a fierce expression in contrast to the other nine, which have a serene countenance. One may observe a thousand limbs of Avalokiteshvara forming a stunning aureole behind the icon, while his eyes are open, contrary to the half-closed eyes of Nepalese statues, underlining his active and all-encompassing gaze over the realm of his devotees.
